Police are inviting the public to Penzance Water Safety Day on Saturday 17 June from 12 – 5pm.

Joining Devon & Cornwall Police will be partners including RNLI Penlee Lifeboat Station Cornwall, HM Coastguard, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service Cornwall Council, National Coastwatch institution, RNLI events and water safety team along with the RNLI shop, Mor Swimmy and other local businesses.

Organised by Penzance Police and Safer Penzance, the event will be based on Penzance Promenade, opposite the Arcade, close to the junction with Alexandra Road.

Throughout the event, emergency service teams will be providing a ‘behind the scenes’ look at their kit including Police vehicles and more at the open-to-all free event.

The public can meet Blue Light teams responsible for keeping them safe, who will be sharing tips and information about how to be smart in the sea to enjoy the water safely.

Water demonstrations will be given by the Police Diving Team and the RNLI, Coastguard Helicopter (tbc) and Border Force with boats and jet skis (tbc).

Water demonstrations will be taking place off Penzance Promenade from 3 – 5pm - weather permitting.

Louisa Brown, Devon & Cornwall Police, Neighbourhood Team Lead said: “This is the second annual Penzance Water Safety Day, and we are looking forward to meeting our community and visitors to share advice, following a successful event last year.

“We are so lucky in Penzance to enjoy outstanding coastal areas and we will continue to work with our partners to ensure people can be safe and know what to do in an emergency. This is a great opportunity to promote what we all do and speak with our community, especially as we are enjoying the longer days leading to the summer holidays, when more of us are keen to spend time on and in the water.”

The public are reminded to keep safe by following the Water Safety Code which advises people to: 1. Stop and Think, Spot the Dangers, 2. Stay Together, Stay Close, 3. In an Emergency, Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
